I was asking about local libraries on the Cata -Readers loop because I’ve determined I’m out of excuses for not visiting mine. It’s literally a mile down the road. Yeah. Leave the subdivision, make a right and at the end of the road (maybe 1.2 miles) sits the local library. And no, I did not move here because of the library.
However, I just haven’t gone in yet. And I don’t know why. Maybe I’m afraid of the dusty musty book smell or a mean old librarian glaring at me. Or maybe I’m afraid there won’t be any good romances to check out and then what will I do?
To me, the library reminds me of school and all the research that went into reports and term papers. The memory makes me shiver. I try to remember back to when I liked going to the library. As a youngster I dreamed of owning a horse and would spend hours researching the beasts.
But once I actually got my beast, I sort of forgot about reading for a while.
So here I am, a little over a mile away from a library and I haven’t gotten the courage up to enter. Let’s face it, libraries aren’t known to be great hangouts and they’re not sexy. Or are they?
Maybe the libraries of the world just need an image upgrade. Reading is definitely sexy. And that’s what libraries have in spades. Good books to read.
At least I hope mine has good books to read. We’ll see.
How about this? I’ll go to my local library if you’ll go to yours? Then we’ll report back to each other. J But since I don’t know your email address, I’m counting on you to email me at alice@alice-anderson.com when you get back from visiting yours. Or leave a message below. :)
I look forward to hearing from you!

Ally,
I confess with the advent of the Internet, I’m not going to the library as often as I once did. But I do plan on remedying that soon.
I used to love going in there, surrounded with books. I could spend hours. I loved the quiet and the chance to peruse the shelves at my leisure.
I will admit to missing the card catalog. I had gotten pretty good with it, and then they changed over to a computer system, that to this day, I can’t figure out how to use. I’m not computer savvy! So the computer wasn’t a big help to me in the library.
But I do love libraries. All those words…

But Charlene, you’re doing spendid here at Cata! But i admit, sometimes search and browse can be a pain. I’m in that generation between card catalogs and computers. I’ve used both, was on the tail end of card catalogs. I wonder if they even have those in libraries anymore. :)

OH! Speaking of libraries. Has everyone read Love’s Nine Lives? It’s a Silhouette Romance from Jan. about a librarian. http://cataurl.com/MSpEu Very cute book. The heroine has a major library addiction. :)

Ally,
I love my local library, they have a great selection of romances. The added benefit is their catalog is online and I can request books from any of the 6 or 7 libraries that are a part of our 3-county library system. I love it since I can quickly go online and check about a title I’ve heard of and then request it. It’s wonderful since I usually have my little ones with me and don’t get a chance to browse. This way I can run in, check out the books and leave. Occasionally the DH keeps the kids for me on Saturday and I go and spend a few hours at the local branch. I look through the bookshelves and then sit and read awhile. It is so relaxing for me.
I also get great books on tape/cd and DVDs at the local library.
DH jokes with me that the only people that call me on my cell phone are him, my parents and the library :) .

You know I feel just like you, it reminds me of school and all of that stuff and you’re right about it not being sexy. I’d much rather pop in to the local Barnes and Noble.
But guess what, you made me think and I’m ashamed to admit my local library in West Seattle is only a few blocks away from my home. So I’m accepting your challenge, I’ll go tomorrow andd email you.
